Timothée Chalamet has a packed schedule. When we sit down to discuss his latest film, Beautiful Boy—already generating Oscar buzz—he’s just returned from filming The King in Hungary, where he stars alongside Robert Pattinson and Joel Edgerton. Up next, he’ll appear in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated remake of Little Women, featuring Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Saoirse Ronan. (“The script is awesome,” he says.)

Despite his growing list of roles, Chalamet’s most iconic performance remains Elio in Call Me By Your Name, Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of André Aciman’s beloved novel. The film not only earned him an Academy Award nomination but also a devoted fan base. His co-star Armie Hammer has previously hinted at a sequel, and now Chalamet confirms that it’s a real possibility—and that he and Hammer remain close.

“I was just on the phone with Armie thirty minutes ago,” Chalamet shares. Hammer had recently written a heartfelt tribute to him for Variety, which Chalamet admits brought him to tears. “He always has a trick up his sleeve,” he says. “I got emotional. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read—especially coming from him.”

So, how likely is the sequel? “I can’t imagine a world where it doesn’t happen,” Chalamet says. “I think André is open to it, Luca is eager, and Armie and I are 1000% in.”

As for the storyline, Chalamet believes the sequel will take place years later, showing an older Elio and Oliver. “I think it’ll be set a few years down the line,” he explains. “And I love that—it allows for a Boyhood-style approach to storytelling, which isn’t something we see often.”
